And it does shoot incredible.took my first white-tail with it. I remember him getting the mount and rings at Sears many years ago (actually, technically it was a Sears, Roebuck & Co store, but I digress). Quite ironic there Larry as that is near the same rifle and a similar set-up my dad had (his has a wood stock and can't remember the scope, but its not Nikon). I really do hate the older standard Weaver rings and mounts that came on the 700's a few years ago. I really only changed the system because the original system was cheesy looking at best. Better than I'll ever need for a hunting rifle. Minimal $$ spent and shoots like a tack driver. 270 Remington 700 ADL Synthetic, some cheap $25 Weaver 4 loop "Tactical" rings on it from WalMart, along with a good Pro-staff Nikon 3-9X40 ballistic plex scope and mine shoots sub MOA at 100 yards without much effort. I took the original Weaver Bases and rings off, I put a cheap $30 no-name brand Picatinny rail on my cheap. Regardless, I greatly appreciate y'alls input and here is the finished product. Of course, there are always hogs (season is year round here) and the shorter barrel on this model is perfect for getting through some of the mesquite and/or mountain cedar patches. With my father passing, I haven't had a chance to get out with it for deer season.still have until 19 Jan (or 2 Feb for doe/spike), so still hoping. Would recommend both or either of these products for anyone out there looking to set up a rifle with a solid, dependable mount. I only got to take it out once to sight it at 100 yards, but once dialed in I put 4 of my hand-loads w/165 grain SGKs inside a quarter. Used a little purple Loc-Tite on the screws and the set-up is incredibly solid. Thanks for the tip on those rings Don.didn't know about them until you mentioned it and glad you did.Īnd Oscar, I agree completely about the 8/40 screws and that is exactly what I did.drilled and re-tapped to mount with the 8/40s, which this mount included. I was leaning toward the Badger mount, but ended up getting a great deal through my local LGS on a Nightforce 20 MOA base w/ optional 8/40 screws ($105) and found a nice deal on-line for TPS TSR low-mount rings ($65). That was a flub when I put 0 MOA.I did mean a 20 MOA.

My ant to follow up on this thread much earlier than this, but family matters put this on the back burner. I'm sure others have reasons to like different maker's bases and rings so it is, I guess, personal preference and pocket book. 308 it came on had an adjustable comb which helped get the correct eye height. Have used a Ferrell base but it is a higher profile than the Badger but the 700 in. EGW bases look good but have never used any.

The screw holes in the base will probably have to be opened for the larger screws if you go this way. So, his recommendation was Badger on Badger and 8-40 screws. The old gun smith that did this for me used to build rifles for a group of men that went in harms way because he had seen the smaller base screws sheared off. I also increased the base mount screw size from 6-48 to 8-40. The base is north of $150 and the rings are similarly priced. However they are sort of pricey and some think they're not worth the money and opt for a cheaper version. I use Badger bases and Badger rings and have them on 3 rifles. I would appreciate any recommendations/input from those of y'all with this set-up or experience with such. Noticed a couple different variations by a company called Evolution Gun Works (EGW) and some from Badger Ordnance. I was looking on-line and found a few different manufacturers, one of which is Pro-Mag so that one is a non-starter. Surprisingly, none of the LGS I've visited carry any. This is my first 700 and I have a Nikon Pro-Staff mil-dot scope (1" tube) I'm planning on mounting to it via a one-piece, 0 MOA picatinny rail mount. I recently acquired a Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC in.
